Attitude Survey

In December 2006 / January 2007 we carried out the first attitude survey - 307 responses were received.
A summary of the responses is below:
  • 82% of respondents cycle and 88% owned a cycle
  • 20% cycled to the local shops on a daily basis or several times per week
  • 12% cycled to the supermarket on a daily basis or several times per week with 54% saying they never do 
  • 39% cycled to work on a daily basis or several times per week 
  • 28% cycled for leisure on a daily basis or several times per week, with a further 35% doing so once or twice per month
  • Only 14% of respondents ever escorted children to school by cycle

 

  • Over 30% thought that the frequency of cycling events to raise awareness was much better and a further 50% thought that there was some improvement
  • 38% though that the avilability of training was much better and 47% thought that there was some improvement
  • Over 30% thought that there had been a small increase in the number of children cycling to school, while 10% thought there had been a large increase
  • Over 16% thought that there had been a small increase in the amount of commuting, while almost 60% thought there had been a large increase
  • Just over 22% strongly agreed that they were cycling more than a year ago, around 17% agreed and 38% were neutral
  • Around 17% strongly agreed that they expected to be cycling more than a year ago, a quarter agreed and 42% were neutral
  • Over 70% felt that CDT status was resulting in improved provision for cyclists, 18% were neutral and 6% disagreed
