Monitoring

As part of the CDT project we have a monitoring programme overseen by Sustrans.
The main strands of the programme are:
  • Eight new automatic cycle counters to be added to the existing cycle counter network. Count data to be provided on a monthly basis
  • Manual cycle counts to be undertaken quarterly at 4 locations in Lancaster and 4 in Morecambe
  • Pupil Level Annual School Census (PLASC) data for the towns to be accessed following Census completion in Autumn 2007
  • Workplace travel surveys to target a respondent sample at key employers in the towns
  • Attitude survey of cyclists and non-cyclists to target a respondent sample of around 300 individuals
  • Counts of parked cycles to be conducted in the central areas of Lancaster and Morecambe based on a ‘beat’ including key cycle parking locations, but also incorporating informal on-street parking

Other Monitoring may include:

  • The Sustrans / SocialData Travel behaviour survey data to be examined with reference to the Cycling Demonstration Town project
  • Route User Surveys in Lancaster to be repeated during the project lifetime
  • Physical Activity Survey data for Lancaster and Morecambe to be interrogated
  • A diary of relevant interventions and events that are expected to impact upon cycling activity to be submitted to the research team annually
